Think about "Seven Floors," by Dino Buzzati. In this story, Giuseppe is continuously moved towards the bottom floor of the Sanitarium, which is a symbol for death. Because he is unable to accept the gravity of his illness, he is in denial until the very end.

In your opinion, is Giuseppe dying because he is moved to the bottom floor? Or is he moved to the bottom floor because he is dying? Use textual evidence to support your answer.

In the story I think Giuseppi is dying because heis being moved. Because when he was on the top floor he was perfectly fine. The lower he got the worse he got because he saw sicker people each time, so he convinced him self that he was sick

In my opinion, Giuseppi is moved to the bottom floor because he is dying. I think he is intentionally moved to the bottom because if he was not intentially moved why was he moved from seventh to first floor continuously. He never got moved back his floors were reducing as his deat

I believe that Giuseppi is dying from being moved from floor to floor. He is not dying from an illness. In the story, it talks about his illness being recovered. Giuseppi even says he feels a lot better. The doctors on the other hand say that he must be moved to the next floor because heis suffering from a deadly illness though.

Giuseppe, in my opinion is actually dying. The fact that he doesn't want to admit lets us know that his illness will one day kill him. The doctors tell him that he only has a minor condition, but that for treatment he needs to go down manyo. I think that he is being moved down floors because the doctors know that he has a severe illness but they don't want him to worry. They say that they will take care of him and that he is going to be fine.

i feel as they kept moving him down because they codiendence and they did not want to belive him when he said he belonged on the 7th floor . so maybe when he did get to the bottom maybe he did get more sick or maybe he was fine and died for just an acidental causee.

In my opinion , the passage was very eary. I didn't like that Giovanni had to keep being moved from level to level. I also didn't like how they kept tricking him. Then eventually got sicker and sicker and died. It was very sad in the end.

In my opinion I think that Guisepi is dying because he is not accepting his illness and is being moved down towards the bottom floor of the sanitarium

I agree with Manny. I believe he's is actually dying. he could be in denial. I think he doesn't want to believe that he is dying. Or he could actually think he's healthy but the doctors are trying to keep it from him.

i believe Guiseppe is dying because he is moved down the floors. I interpret this as the nurses and doctors know he is going to die so why try. Each level he is moved down the less care he is given and the sicker he becomes until he reaches floor 1.

I believe that Giovanni is being moved because he is dying. I don't think the doctor's would just move him down if his condition didn't worsen. Although they were tricking him by telling him things like "you belong on the 7th floor." By tricking him though he never gave up on himself he was always thinking he would be back on the 7th floor again!

I kind of agree with Manny. I think Giovanni was getting sicker so the doctors had to move him down the floors.Giovanni could of been in denial that he was even sick in the first place. So he thought he would be in and out of the hospital. The doctors probaly didn't want to worry him so they said its only temporary. I mean the last thing you want to tell a dieting old man was that he is dieing.All you can do is pat him on the shoulder and tell him everything is going to be ok. So I think they moved him because he was getting sicker

I agree with Manny, I think that they moved Giuseppe because he was actually gravely ill and yet they told him that he was fine and he will eventually be moved back to the seventh floor of the Sanitarium so that way, Giuseppe wouldn't worry. However, it could be that the doctors know that Giuseppe will soon die and that they should gradually move him to the bottom floor.

I think he is moved to lower floors because he was initially sick, the doctors and nurses just didn't want to tell him how sick he is so he wouldn't go crazy. I believe that all the patients at the ward went through this process

I personally believe Guiseppi is become more ill, which is why he is dying. The doctors know this but he is unaware. And the doctors won't tell him, so they won't worry him. Everyone knew he was dying but kept it to themselves to keep him at ease. You can tell by the reactions from the people he spoke to

I think that the more that he moved throughout the floors the more sicker he got. For example if you are sick and u keep being around sicker people you are gonna get more sick

In My Opinion I Think Giovanni Is Dying Because He Is Moving To The Bottom Floor. The Doctors Doesn't Kill Him He Just Gets More Sick As He Progresses Therefore He Is Becoming More Ill The Lower He Gets

Uhm, hmm. I don't really know. I think he was already dying, because that is why he was in the hospital in the first place. Because he was sick and he was dying. So I don't think the floors had nothing to do with him dying. But then again it might have been. He was already there because he was sick and dying. An as he was moving down the floors with people who are even more sick, he could of been getting more sick, which could have caused him to die faster.

In my opinion I think he was dieing from the beginning and they moved him from floor to floor to eas him into it instead of putting him on the bottom floor rite away.

In my opinion, I think that Giovanni was really ill when he went on the 7th floor, and the doctors didn't want to say to him
how ill he was but when he arrived at the first floor, he realized to be very ill and he was dieing.

I reckon that Giuseppe when arrived to 7th floor was a little ill. The doctors sent him in the lower floor for various reasons, so he was terrified for the afraid for dying, despite he wasn't very ill.

In my opinion, at the beginning Giuseppe didn't have a serious illness, but when the doctors started to move him from floor to floor, he was really terrified. This is why he started to get worse. Then, when he was at the fourth floor, the doctors understood he was dying and they moved Giovanni to the other floors by tricking him.

Giuseppe is not sick. I think the whole point of this story was to explain that the person was not ill at all. I've read a lot of Dino Buzzari stories and he belongs to magic realism in literature. It is not the idea of the story to tell about a man who is dying and denying it. The author takes it to another social phycological level, it's about how fragile the human mind is, and how a person acts when dictated and influenced by society and norms. Only after being moved he started to feel ill and worse every day.

Totally agree with C. His sickness wasn't that serious at the beginning. But as he started going down floor by floor; despite all his denial, in the background he started to believe he's getting worse and worse and the doctors were lying to him. It's not just a man denying his sickness and how the doctors tricked him. That's too simple for a writer like Buzzati.
