Finding Bias

6/4/2013

Knowing whether or not you can trust a source is a valuable skill.  Read the following articles regarding the Syrian Crisis.

The Guardian

Reuters

Now answer the following questions in your blog post.  Be sure to take into account what your classmates have written as well as the information in the articles.  Blogs should be interactive.

1. How reliable are the sources?  Do a little digging.  Check the credibility of the site.  Who funds it?  Look at their links. Cross-reference information.

2. Do you see evidence of author point of view or bias?  What is their POV?  How are they showing bias?

3. Which article is more believable?  Why? What evidence does the article give that makes it more credible?

The Guardian

* The site states everything mostly biased as the comment agree on it, the author has all information and they have positivity in their comments for the the author. The author John Steele is a communist and is reporting since very long. Also he has been reporting for a lot of wars before like he is talking for Syria so his way of writing is very experienced.

1. The sources are very reliable. The Guardian even has an office in New York which publishes almost all of the U.S.'s news around the world.

Guardian.
This site very reliable. It give a lot of facts on the Syrian Civil war. It showed that it is possible that Syria wants to keep their leader Assad. For example, In the article it said, "Especially as the finding would go against the dominant narrative about the Syrian crisis, and the media considers the unexpected more newsworthy than the obvious."

Reuters.
Is a much more reliable source then the Guardian, even though the Guardian is still reliable. It gives plenty of facts on the US and some other countries. It tells how they confirmed that Adana "the nerve center" was set up near Turkey to help out the Syrian rebels.
